Palmitoylethanolamide: chemical structure

Chemical structure of Palmitoylethanolamide and on demand synthesis

PEA, after drs, A. Arkenbout
Molecular structure of PEA, thanks to Drs Abel Arkenbout, for this design.
Here we see the beautiful molecular structure of palmitoylethanolamide. PEA is a simple fatty molecule, and our cells can synthesize this molecule on demand. As soon as cells are under stress due to lack of oxygen, in situations of chronic pain or chronic inflammation, the cells form PEA as a cellular protector from the fatty compounds in their membranes. PEA than helps counteracting the stress. And if PEA has done its job, it will be gobbled up by the cell membranes again. This is real recyling!
